Players use their gadget to shoot coloured pieces known as pins onto a game board that's called the lock tumbler. When three or more pins of the same colour are adjacent, they will disappear. The object of the game is to clear all of the pins out of the tumbler.
The following gadget modifications are related to Lockpick or directly provide bonuses during Lockpick.
The following is text from tutorials that appear in the game.
The Basics of Picking Locks
"Use your device to shoot PINS into the LOCK TUMBLER. Matching 3 or more Pins will cause those Pins to be cleared. Clear all Pins to unlock that Tumbler."
Locks may have several Tumblers
"Some locks consist of several TUMBLERS. You must pick all tumblers to open the lock."
Bounce Shots and Big Clears
"You can BOUNCE your shots off the side walls to reach more pins. Also, look to hit pins that will DROP all the pins hanging off of them when cleared."
Clearing Away Metal Pins
"Some Tumblers have METAL PINS. These cannot be cleared directly, but must be dropped by clearing the pins holding them up."
- If you're having trouble on a lockpick because it's too hard, shoot all your pins up immediately until the pins are below the bottom. This will start a new, easier puzzle.
- Practice bouncing pins off of the edges of the board. Getting good at this opens up many more potential moves, allowing you to shoot around obstacles that would otherwise be in your way.
